Cardiovascular

What is it?
The cardiovascular system involves the heart and blood vessels, both arteries and veins. Cardiovascular disease can be considered a disease that affects the heart and/or the vessels associated with it. Millions of Americans die each year from some form of cardiovascular disease. Often, it comes in the form of a heart attack resulting from a blockage of the arteries that feed oxygen to the heart. The end result of a heart attack is often either death or life-saving surgical procedures resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills.

Heart attacks are not the only forms of cardiovascular disease. It also includes the diseases of the heart muscle itself, called cardiomyopathy, the valves, or the blood vessels in other areas of the body, such as the brain. If the condition is advanced enough in the cranial blood vessels, the disease can result in a stroke.

Causes and Cures
Many people would like to say that cardiovascular disease can be avoided by controlling one known factor, such as cholesterol, stress, saturated fats, obesity, smoking, exercise, or genetics. While it is true that all of these are associated with cardiovascular disease to some extent, it is also known that controlling only one of these factors will not prevent a person from having cardiovascular disease.

Cholesterol has fallen by the way side as far as a cause for the disease. Currently, the scientific community is leaning more toward the level of saturated fats within the body. Whether or not this is true will only be discovered with time.

A new kid on the block, so to speak, is a chemical in the body called homocysteine. It is thought that high levels of this chemical are present in the body of individuals with cardiovascular disease.

It has also been stated that the formation of oxygen radicals in the body contributes heavily to the beginning of cardiovascular disease. Vitamins E, C and A act as antioxidants that help control oxygen radicals or free radicals, which are damaging to all tissues. It has been suggested that they help prevent the thickening of vessel walls, which leads to narrowing of the vessel and, eventually, a heart attack.

Selenium is a mineral that has been found to prevent disease of the heart muscle itself when taken in the correct amounts. A selenium deficiency has been linked to cardiomyopathy.

While many factors have been associated with cardiovascular disease, the most important may well be the levels of vitamins and minerals in the diet. Vitamins B12, B6, and folic acid help to control homocysteine levels. Selenium helps develop a strong heart muscle. Minerals such as calcium and magnesium help control the heartbeat as well as help to maintain blood pressure. Copper is an important mineral in the elasticity of the vessel walls, which is important in preventing stroke. Co-enzyme Q10 is essential for the health and viability of all human tissues and organs, including the heart, and it works with other vitamins and enzymes in the body to support different metabolic functions. People over 35 or individuals who have been ill, under stress, or have poor nutrition often have low levels of Coenzyme Q10.

The Benefits of Supplementation
It is true that controlling many factors will help prevent cardiovascular disease. When damage begins, the afflicted system will be able to repair itself quickly instead of the condition worsening to the point of death or expensive procedures. By supplementing vitamins and minerals that we cannot get from the American diet, we will help to maintain our cardiovascular system in addition to the other systems in our body. All of our Complete Formula™ products are an excellent source of vitamins, minerals, and trace minerals that are essential for a healthy body.

Cardio Support provides outstanding cardiovascular support. This product contains Co-enzyme Q10 as well as substantial amounts of calcium, magnesium, copper, selenium, chromium and folic acid.
